Identity Thief

As many as 15.4 million Americans have their identity stolen each year. The originator of identity theft is Satan who attempted to steal God’s identity. “I will be like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:14).

In Genesis 3, the first lie was given to Eve regarding her identify. “…you will be like God…” (Genesis 3:5). She was already like God. But she heard Satan’s lies that God was trying to keep something from her. In the wilderness temptation, Satan challenged Jesus’ identity: ‘If you are the Son of God …’ (Matthew 4:3). While he was hanging on the cross, Roman soldiers said to Jesus, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself” (Luke 23:37).

As you grow, your identify – how you see yourself – begins to form. Your parents tell you who you are, people around you tell you who you are. If you were rejected, abused, you end up with no self-worth. If you are fed false information, you have a false identity.

How does Satan steal your identity? He tries to keep you from the truth of who you really are. He tries to make you identify yourself as a victim, a defeated person, a failure, guilty, full of shame. The enemy keeps trying to tell you you’re no good and keep you in the past. His purpose is that you have the wrong identity and disqualify yourself from what the Father has for you in Christ.

“For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4

Once you get your identity stolen, you must fight real hard to prove who you really are. What you need is an identity revelation. The Word identifies who you are. We are made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 5:1).

John 3:16 says, “you are loved”. John 16:27 says, “the Father himself loves you”. Romans 8:35 says, “nothing can separate you from His love”. Psalm139:14 says, “you are fearfully and wonderfully made”. Ephesians 2:10 says, “for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them”.

1 Peter 2:9 says “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”.

Who are you? What is your identity? If you don’t know who God is, you don’t know who you are. Don’t let the identity thief fool you. Your value and worth is defined by the price Jesus paid for you on the cross. Your true identity is found in Him.
